I think it’s so beautiful that Heavenly Father prepared a way for all of those millions/billions of people who’ve never heard of Him or Jesus Christ to still have an opportunity to choose to make covenants with Him. Even if it’s after this life and well into the next one. I love how all of the little things were thought of and covered in the Plan of Redemption.

We get to watch a part of President Holland’s talk about his testimony of the Book of Mormon. I remember when he gave that talk – it’s stuck with me ever since.

How has your testimony changed this year? Do you feel closer to the people who came before us? Do you have stronger faith in the Book of Mormon and/or Joseph Smith? What’s changed for you as you’ve read, studied, and pondered this year’s “Come, Follow Me” lessons?

President Oaks was a justice of the Utah Supreme Court – he knows a bit about governments and how they’re supposed to work.

I also find it interesting that he’s our prophet now when it seems like our government is a bit of a mess (it has been for a while – this isn’t a new thing). As we prepare for the second coming, what should our government look like? Is it supposed to be in chaos? Or should things be calm? 

It’s not a mistake. Our Heavenly Father has a plan and it’s in motion. And the best part? We get to CHOOSE which part we play in that plan.

There’s so much that I’ve created two different plans. 

Plan A will take, on average, about 24 minutes every day. The only section of the Doctrine & Covenants that we’re looking at this week is over 38 minutes by itself. 

Plan B will take about an hour and 12 minutes every day. I don’t think we’ve had one that heavy since … Easter?

But it’s all good stuff. From the Nauvoo temple, to patriarchal blessings, and beginning the trek west, there’s so much to learn, review, or remember. Don’t let the length of things discourage you. Your Father in Heaven knows what you can do and He only expects you to try.

D&C section 122 is a favorite of mine. When I’m feeling out of sorts or stuck (or any of those other things above) I like to go to this section for a reminder that everything is going to work out. All of the hard things we have to go through are for our good. They’ll help make us stronger, more compassionate, more patient, or just smarter. Often there is no other way to get the experience (and knowledge or wisdom) that we’ll get from the really hard things.

As you read section 122 this time around, remember Joseph and what he was struggling with and then think about the times when you felt like you were in your own Liberty Jail. We’ve discovered our own Sacred Grove, but what about those Liberty Jails?

“But there’s so much more to the divine instruction in section 107 than just how Church leadership should be organized. Here, the Lord teaches us about His power and authority, ‘the Holy Priesthood, after the Order of the Son of God’ (verse 3). The purpose of the priesthood is to unlock ‘all the spiritual blessings of the church’ so that all of God’s children can ‘have the heavens opened unto them’ and ‘enjoy the communion and presence of God the Father, and Jesus the mediator of the new covenant’ (verses 18–19). In teaching us about His priesthood, the Savior is teaching us about Himself and how we can come unto Him.”

Isn’t that beautiful? The more I learn about the priesthood and my role in it, the more grateful I am for the Plan of Salvation and the opportunities available to all of us as we progress on the covenant path.

If you’re anything like me, that’s intimidating. Their trials seem so much worse than mine will ever be. BUT here’s the thing. We are different people going through different things. Some of the things I struggle with, you would find easy and possibly even laughable. And the same is true for me. Sometimes when I hear that someone is struggling with something that I think is simple or easy, I find myself judging them for not being able to get through it “better.” Shame on me.

Heavenly Father gives us different struggles because we are different. We cannot go through this life exactly the same as anyone else – we would lose our uniqueness and some of our agency. That’s not to say that we can’t use our experiences to help others – that’s actually part of the point. We can! We can use our experience and our talents, gifts, and opportunities to help each other. And we should.

Anyway – here’s the links to the lists this week. Yep – listS. There are two. The difference between them is that there are 3 chapters from Saints, Volume 1 on list B. List A has us studying for about 20 minutes every day, and list B has us at 29. That’s a 10 minute difference (about) so it was worth creating the two different lists. The "Come, Follow Me" manual says that one of the concerns the early Church leaders had regarding the publishing of the revelations Joseph Smith received was the imperfections in the way he wrote them. Section 67 addresses that concern. I'm excited to learn more about that.

Have you ever wanted to forgive someone, you just didn't know how? Maybe it was yourself; you wanted to get past something dumb you did but you just couldn't figure out how to let go?

It's happened to me, and I wish there was a quick way to just say, "Ok, I'm done" and have all the feelings of guilt, embarrassment, shame, and ickiness just disappear. Every time I've found myself in that place of wanting to let go and just not knowing how, it has worked itself out; eventually. Lots of prayer, sometimes some fasting, and time.

Keep learning, keep growing, and be of good cheer! I know; it's easier said than done. Just do your best.

This week we're getting into sections 51-57 of the Doctrine & Covenants and I'm excited to learn. Based on what little I've read so far, it looks like it's going to be about the law of consecration and how the Saints back then were able to move and find places to live. It could not have been an easy thing to deal with; from either side.

Today, the Church has humanitarian and welfare services that are probably beyond the imaginations of those early Saints. Frankly, they're almost beyond my imagination. There are so many people doing so many good things in this world.

I wanted to do something special for the 100th, but then I had family in town and sick kids and it just didn't work out. It's ok though. I'll get there again.

Instead we have just a plain ol' Make-a-Plan Monday. This week, we're looking at Doctrine & Covenants sections 46-48 and are learning about spiritual gifts. I have so much to learn about them and am excited to get started this week!

There are two study plans to choose from. Plan A only averages about 11 minutes per day, and Plan B averages about 14. I don't usually break them up when they're that close together, but for some reason I felt like that needed to be done this week.

As a Church, we've been working to make Easter more prominent in our lives. Yes, the birth of Jesus was important, but without his death and resurrection, we would be stuck in an endlessly fallen state. Because he was resurrected, we can be too.

As part of our preparations for Easter, we get to start on our study plan a bit earlier than usual. There is a lot for us to get into this week too, so you'll notice that the checklist is very long. Don't worry - the longest day is Monday and it's just under 46 minutes.

Don't be discouraged! Just do what you can. The Lord loves our efforts and will magnify them!

Last week was a LOT. I don't know about you, but I did not get through it all. This week has been toned down a bit, and I've created two different plans that you can choose to work from (or create your own).

Plan A averages about 9 minutes per day - some days are really short and others are longer. No day goes past 14 minutes, and the shortest day is just over 3 minutes.

Plan B is longer but still only averages about 18 minutes every day. Only one day is longer than that (at 23 minutes).

Yep - there's more than one version of The First Vision. I remember when I heard that the first time and how it blew my mind, but the more I've thought about it over the years, the more it makes sense.

When was the last time you told someone about something that happened to you and told the story exactly the same way you'd told someone else? Word. For. Word.

Anyway - as has been our usual for the Doctrine and Covenants this year, I've created two different checklists for us this week. I'm not gonna lie - Plan B is hefty. "Come, Follow Me" is structured a lot differently for the Doctrine and Covenants this year than it was for the Book of Mormon last year and I'm pretty excited about some of the new stuff that's out there. In all honesty, it might have been structured the same way the last time we did this book and I missed it, but I'm not going to miss it this time!

I've created two different checklists for this week. You can download either (or both) of them at https://paisleyimperfect.com/make-a-plan-monday-january-6-12/

Plan A is very simple and really only has related content Monday through Thursday. I've linked back to Family Search: Record My Story for Friday and Saturday.

Plan B has more! We're still only averaging about 14 minutes every day (which is totally doable!) and we'll learn a lot more.

Pick your plan or create your own. Whatever works for you. If you're just getting started and you're determined to make it through the Doctrine and Covenants this year; GOOD FOR YOU! Plan A is a great way to get started without overwhelming yourself.

If you're ready to push yourself a bit, check out Plan B. 14 minutes a day isn't too much of a push and will be totally worth it!

President Nelson emphasizes that the heaves are equally open to women who honor their covenants, offering a path filled with spiritual joy. Our journey, however, may require that we set aside some worldly things that may even seem harmless.

He also gave us three sections in the Doctrine and Covenants that we can use to start with as we work to discover our own personal path:

In today's brief message, we'll take a quick look at Alma 31:5 and think about how the word of God can be a more effective tool for change than any weapon. With the world facing so many divisive challenges, it's crucial to remember that love and faith can lead us to righteousness and unity.

📖 Scripture of the Day: Alma 31:5 "And now, as the preaching of the word had a great tendency to lead the people to do that which was just—yea, it had had more powerful effect upon the minds of the people than the sword, or anything else, which had happened unto them—therefore Alma thought it was expedient that they should try the virtue of the word of God."

Happiness is a recurring theme that resonates with me, and it's something I've been striving to understand better. Sister Eubank's talk, "Turn on Your Light," offers a powerful insight into true happiness. She emphasizes that being happy isn't about wearing a plastic smile but about keeping God's laws and lifting others. This brings blessings that trials cannot take away.

From these teachings, I've gathered two key points about happiness. First, real happiness stems from our relationship with God. It's an internal feeling, not just an outward display. Second, happiness manifests when we do good for others and see the positive impact of our actions. Reflect on a time when you've helped someone; how did it make you feel?

I've faced some personal trials lately, including a significant career change after 14 years with a company I deeply love. This transition has been tough, but it has also provided me with a new perspective on happiness. Despite the challenges, moments with my family, late-night talks with friends, and witnessing my children's growth have brought me genuine happiness. These experiences remind me that happiness isn't about avoiding trials but finding joy amidst them.

Sister Eubank beautifully stated, "There is an energy that comes from happiness and optimism that doesn't just bless us. It builds everyone around us." My goal is to cultivate happiness and share it with others, creating an environment where everyone can feel God's love and joy.

To wrap up, remember Sister Eubank's words: "Put yourself in a place where you can feel the generous love God has for you." His love and blessings are always within reach, and through keeping His commandments, we can be part of His work and glory, bringing others closer to their Savior.

That would leave me open the other nights of the week for those talks ("Infuriating Unfairness" is one of my favorites so I'm hoping to get that one in!).

I mistakenly said that Alma the elder became the first chief judge of the Nephites, but it was actually Alma the younger. He took on the role when Mosiah's sons chose missions over kingship. The article starts with a powerful thought: "The Lord's miracles showed that sometimes He calms the storm, and sometimes He calms the sailor." This really resonated with me. It made me wonder if God is calming the storm around me or if He's calming me.

We'll look at two miracles from the article. The first is when Jesus calmed the storm on the Sea of Galilee. Despite the apostles' fear, Jesus rebuked the wind and sea, demonstrating His mastery over the elements and providing a lesson on faith. Stephen Turcotte explains the weather dynamics of the Sea of Galilee, showing Jesus' profound understanding of nature. This miracle teaches us that as we deepen our faith, we can become less affected by life's storms.

The second miracle is when Jesus walked on water. Peter attempted to join Him but started sinking when his fear overtook his faith. Jesus saved him, showing us that sometimes, we must step out in faith amidst our storms. We need to trust in the Savior's power to help us overcome our fears.

I want to share a personal story. Last month was tough for me, filled with misunderstandings and gossip. Instead of letting it fester, I confronted the issue directly. It was uncomfortable, but it led to a positive resolution and deeper understanding among friends. This experience showed me that sometimes, God doesn't calm the storm; He calms us.

I also drew inspiration from Alma's story in Mosiah 26. When faced with a problem, Alma sought advice from a friend and then turned to the Lord. His troubled heart found peace through seeking divine guidance, just as I did.

This month, we're diving into the theme of being still. After a rough May filled with hard emotions, hurtful gossip, and challenging situations, I found myself seeking relief and kept hearing, "Be still." It took some time for the message to sink in, but eventually, it resonated deeply.

In today's video, I'm sharing insights from Elder Ricardo P. Gimenez's talk from April 2020, "Finding Refuge from the Storms of Life." He discusses facing unexpected challenges and how suffering is universal, but our reactions are individual. His words reminded me that faith is the antidote for fear and that true joy comes from our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Throughout June, let's explore what being still means for each of us. Whether it's a sticky note reminder, yoga, meaningful prayers, or another practice, let's find our way to stillness and refuge.
